Suarez helped ensure Carragher's 666th game for the Reds

Jamie Carragher moved up to second on Liverpool's all-time appearance list before backing Luis Suarez to eclipse him as an Anfield legend in years to come.

Suarez helped ensure Carragher's 666th game for the Reds on Monday night was one to remember after inspiring a record-breaking 5-2 Barclays Premier League thrashing of Fulham. The win was Liverpool's biggest ever at Craven Cottage and Suarez was at the heart of the rout, terrorising the home defence from first whistle to last.

"If he keeps playing like that, I think he'll be a bigger legend than I'll ever be," Carragher told the club's official website. "He looks a really top player, he plays for the team. It shows he's adaptable and versatile, he can do different jobs for the team."

Monday's win propelled Liverpool back up to fifth place and made them favourites to qualify for next season's Europa League. They are undoubtedly the form side in the country at present, scoring 13 goals in their last three games as their 2011 revival under Kenny Dalglish gathers pace.

Carragher added: "We've been flying since Christmas and that's credit to everyone involved. The manager's come in and made a big difference. Whatever he's done has worked. Players coming in have made a huge difference as well, Suarez is superb.

"I hope I'm not getting too carried away here but I think the performances that he's showed have proved he's going to be a real player for Liverpool, not just between now and the end of season but for years to come."

Liverpool could go into Sunday's clash with Tottenham having seen their record haul of 18 league titles finally overtaken by Manchester United, who visit Blackburn 24 hours earlier. If Dalglish's side can carry their current form into next season, they will surely pose a threat to United's bid to land a 20th championship.

Carragher said: "If we want that record back or we want to win leagues ourselves, we can't keep relying on other teams to stop Man United doing it.

"They're a great team and great club and you have to have respect for them. The only way of us getting back on top is winning titles, not relying on others."
